2006 February Sweeps February 3 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

“Dancing With the Stars 2” (ABC; ends at 8 PM)-Results show.  Barry Manilow sings “Copacabana,” “They Dance!,” and, from his latest album of hits from the '50s, “Unchained Melody”; mambo champions Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine and Joanna Zacharewicz dance to "Ran Kan Kan.”  I'm continuing my objection that the cheesy studio cover band makes the music worse.  Why can't they use the original versions, like on FOX's “Skating with Celebrities?”  I thought that Team Drew was better than Team Stacey (who got a perfect 30.)  What do I know?  I can't even master the Macarena!

“Ghost Whisperer” (CBS; ends at 8 PM)-Melinda must help rescue the brother of Andrea's friend, who went missing during a hike.  The spirit of Andrea's friend begins to haunt her from an unconscious state and every time he flatlines he tries to give clues to the location of where his brother went missing.  In order to find the missing brother, Melinda must convince doctors to let him flatline a few seconds longer so she can piece together his clues.

“Most Outrageous Moments” (NBC; ends at 7:30 PM)

“The Bernie Mac Show” (FOX; ends at 7:30 PM)-100th episode.  In this milestone episode, Bernie pushes Jordan to hang out with David (guest star Kyle Kaplan), a new neighbor who is Jewish, in order to expand his cultural horizons.  Jordan thinks the kid is a total nerd and hangs out with him begrudgingly, but the two become fast friends when David introduces Jordan to the Jewish bar mitzvah tradition and he is amazed by how elaborate the parties are, especially the gift bags.  Jordan has a difficult decision to make when he is invited to what will surely be the biggest bar mitzvah of the year, but it conflicts with David’s own bar mitzvah.  Meanwhile, Bryana’s eavesdropping gets out of hand, pitting Wanda against Vanessa.

“WWE Friday Night SmackDown!” (UPN; ends at 9 PM)

“What I Like About You” (WB; ends at 7:30 PM)-Wanting to see Rick (recurring guest star Ed Kerr), Val's ex-fiancι, again, Lauren stages a phony surprise party for Val.  Meanwhile, Vic tries to give Val a special present but can't find the proper time to do it.

7:30 PM:

“Most Outrageous Moments” (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-Second new episode.

“Living with Fran” (WB; ends at 8 PM)-Allison tries to convince Fran to allow her to go on the pill to regulate her excruciating PMS but Fran turns her down, worried about the temptation for unprotected sex.  Fran's mother, Cookie (guest star Lainie Kazan), however, takes Allison's side which causes Fran to revisit old feelings of having to prove to Cookie that she is a responsible mother.  Fran introduces Riley to her parents, Cookie and Hal (guest star Hal Linden.)  Josh treats Riley coldly until they begin betting on sports events, only for Riley to start winning all of Hal's money.

8 PM:

“In Justice” (ABC; ends at 9 PM)-Sonya and Brianna suspect prosecutorial misconduct when a young woman is convicted of an execution-style murder of an elderly married couple, but their efforts to exonerate her are complicated by Swain's romantic relationship with the former prosecutor in the case.

“Close to Home” (CBS; ends at 9 PM)-Annabeth tries convince the mother of a man who confesses to the murders of three people to testify against her son after a judge rules that blood found in the defendant's home is inadmissible in court.  The defendant's attorney argues in court that his client did not commit any crimes but confessed to the killings because he is fascinated by crime and police investigations.  Annabeth's case against the defendant begins to crumble after one of the women he confesses to killing turns up alive and admits she ran away from her parents to be with her boyfriend.  Annabeth tries to convince the defendant's mother to testify against her son in order to salvage her case and bring the defendant to justice.

“Dateline NBC” (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-2-hour episode.

“Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy” (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-Part 2 of 2.  Mrs. Slivana Clark of Tacoma, WA, and Mrs. Christina Crowe of Belgrade, WA, continue to adjust to life with their new families, and when each of them says goodbye and returns to her own family, they learn how they will have to spend the $50,000 prize.

“Reba” (WB; ends at 8:30 PM)-In the wake of Barbra Jean spilling the beans to the IRS that Reba and Brock owe $75,000 in back taxes, an embarrassed Brock decides the only way he can pay off the debt is by selling his house and moving to Las Vegas.  When Van hears the news, he aims to become Brock's broker and a devastated Barbra Jean tries to change Brock's mind.

“The Soup” (E!; ends at 8:30 PM)-Joel McHale makes fun of celebrity news and events.

“Battlestar Galactica” (Sci-Fi Channel; ends at 9 PM)-Galactica protects miners who are extracting vital metals from an asteroid from Cylon attacks perpetrated by a deadly, battle-savvy Raider nicknamed Scar.  Elsewhere, Kara Thrace butts heads with Lt. Katraine (Luciana Carro.)

“Monk” (USA; ends at 9 PM)-Monk discovers that diamonds aren't forever after all when he and Natalie investigate the heist of some sparkling jewels.  Along the way, they run afoul of a formidable bounty hunter, a clumsy British sleuth, and a technical wizard (guest star DJ Qualls.)

8:30 PM:

“Twins” (WB; ends at 9 PM)-Mitchee finds a condo she can't live without and decides to get a roommate to help cover her expenses.  As a last resort, Mitchee convinces Farrah to make the move by promising to be carefree and fun.  Meanwhile, in celebration of their thirtieth anniversary, Alan and Lee agree to put a limit on their gift spending for each other.  However, when Alan secretly finds his gift, he miscalculates the price and ends up buying a very expensive gift for Lee.

9 PM:

“20/20” (ABC; ends at 10 PM)

“Numb3rs” (CBS; ends at 10 PM)-When a highly valuable piece of equipment is stolen from the Cal Sci science lab, the suspect is the school's track star, and “the next Charlie Eppes,” who works closely with Charlie and Larry.  Although, quickly defended by them, further investigation by Don and his team reveals that the student is not who he says he is and may be involved in an elaborate scheme involving stealing equipment Larry has been using for research containing data worth millions.

“Best Week Ever” (VH1; ends at 9:30 PM)-I'm pretty sure that the Academy Award nominations will be mentioned.

9:30 PM:

“Web Junk 20” (VH1; ends at 10 PM)-The Godfather of Soul takes a trip with Sonya, Whitney Houston gets hit on by a sleazy French gadfly, CNN's Wolf Blitzer makes a poor decision to venture away from the teleprompter, and a rookie college sports broadcaster simply cannot catch up with his.  Animals take up considerable footage this week...a bizarre French poodle aerobics class, an aggressive ninja turtle, a chimp doing his best Bruce Lee, a self-gratifying kangaroo, and a love-sick polar bear.  Also in the mix, some back-handed driving lessons from the authorities and the not-so-authoritative, the West Coast answer to “SNL's” “Chronicles of Narnia Rap,” an old-school Wendy's training video, some sweaty televangelism, and a "quarters" champion you do NOT want to go drinking with.
