2006 February Sweeps February 8 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

“George Lopez” (ABC; ends at 7:30 PM)-In this special episode loosely based on George Lopez's real-life battle with kidney disease, Max starts wetting the bed and George laughs it off as childish, but as Max's symptoms worsen and his grandfather, Vic, suggests that it may mean Max is sexually active, George and Angie take him to Dr. Woodson (guest star Ken Howard, himself a real-life kidney transplant recipient.)  He breaks the news that Max needs surgery, but that it will help him avoid kidney disease in the future.

“The 48th Annual Grammy Awards” (CBS; ends at 10:30 PM)-The annual event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  Mariah Carey, John Legend, and Kanye West lead all nominees with eight nods each and all three are scheduled to perform.  Carey and West are up for album of the year along with Paul McCartney (who is making his first Grammy performance), Gwen Stefani, and U2.  Following with six nominations are 50 Cent, Beyoncι Knowles, and Stevie Wonder.  Madonna will open the show with the cartoon band the Gorillaz.

“The Biggest Loser: Special Edition” (NBC; ends at 9 PM)-Season finale; 2-hour episode.  Engaged couples, Bruce and Kimmi from Los Angeles and Nick and Lael from Hawaii, will go head-to-head for the chance to win a $50,000 dream wedding.  Both couples will be will struggle to complete their wedding cake challenge.  Before going home after just 12 days at the ranch, each couple will have to weigh in for the chance to win a honeymoon vacation.  In the second hour, both couples head home to continue the lifestyle changes that they learned from Bob and Jillian before their return to the ranch for their final weigh in.

“American Idol 5” (FOX; ends at 8 PM)-The Hollywood Round begins.  Do you think that Paula is becoming more negative this season than before?

“South Beach” (UPN; ends at 8 PM)

“One Tree Hill” (WB; ends at 8 PM)-Brooke is forced to grow up in a hurry when her trip to a New York City fashion show prevents her from attending an annual cheerleading tournament.  Nathan and Lucas are influenced by the father of an old friend.  Struggling with her mother's cancer, Peyton joins Rachel for a night of blowing off steam, and Haley and Nathan use their hotel room as the honeymoon suite they never had.

7:30 PM:

“Freddie” (ABC; ends at 8 PM)-Freddie and Chris are both nominated as finalists for the title of “Chicago's Most Eligible Bachelor.”  They invite the other nominees to the restaurant for an informal get together and team up to scope out the competition, but, when they realize that only one man will be featured on the cover of a magazine, they become highly competitive and try to out-do one another to win.

8 PM:

“Lost” (ABC; ends at 9 PM)-The survivors fear that The Others may have returned when Sun is injured during a failed kidnapping attempt.  Meanwhile, Sawyer is an amused but highly interested bystander when tension escalates between Jack, Locke, Kate, and Ana Lucia.

“Bones” (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth enlists Dr. Temperance Brennan’s help when a decomposed body is found in a local alley and the cause of death is unknown.  As Brennan tries to assess if a murder has been committed, the details of the case draw her in deeper, and she’s determined to help Booth find the teen’s killer.  As their investigation reveals the body is that of a teenage boy who had only comic books for friends, Brennan finds she may have more in common with the lone teenager than she thought.

“Veronica Mars” (UPN; ends at 9 PM)-When all of the proceeds for the senior class trip disappear while in her possession during the Neptune High Winter Carnival, Veronica must identify the clever thief among them and surprisingly finds herself defending Jackie as accusations fly.  Meanwhile, Keith confronts his baseball idol and client Terrance Cook (guest star Jeffery Sams) with questions about his past and the bus crash.  Later, Dick tries to humiliate Beaver in front of his carnival date as Logan sets his sights on a sophomore.

“Project Runway 2” (Bravo; ends at 9 PM)-The designers focus on makeovers.

“That’s What I’m Talking About” (TV Land; ends at 9 PM)-Part 2 of 3.  Black influence in sports, politics and comedy is discussed.  Panelists: filmmakers Spike Lee and John Ridley; comic Wanda Sykes; Rev. Al Sharpton; and former NBA player Greg Anthony.  Wayne Brady hosts.

9 PM:

“Invasion” (ABC; ends at 10 PM)-Russell, Larkin, and Dave are in shock after discovering the identity of a mysterious creature who has been lurking around the Varon home.  Meanwhile, Underlay is on a mission to find out who shot him, and Kira begins to question what really happened to her father and Mariel during their respective encounters in the water.

“Law & Order” (NBC; ends at 10 PM)-Detectives Fontana and Green investigate the strangling of a promising Hispanic student at a private magnet school.  The men soon learn the victim was selling test answers and writing term papers for more privileged students...including their prime suspect, Greg Loomis (guest star Jaime McAdams), a trouble-prone senior who would kill just to graduate.  After Loomis' arrest, A.D.A. Sam McCoy spurns any deal with his high-powered attorney Rebecca Shane (guest star Kathleen Turner) but has to overcome her vigorous defense that her client himself was a victim of medication side effects.

11:30 PM:

“Drawn Together” (Comedy Central; ends at 12 AM)-Toot consults a how-to book to cheat at video games to get Xandir to go to her fat-camp reunion; Wooldoor turns the house into a virtual barnyard with a real cow.

Watching/Recording Suggestions:

At 7 PM, watch “The 48th Annual Grammy Awards;” record “George Lopez”/“Freddie” on TiVo, “The Biggest Loser: Special Edition” on VCR 1, “One Tree Hill” on VCR 2, and “American Idol 5” on VCR 3.  At 8 PM, continue watching “The 48th Annual Grammy Awards;” record “Lost” on TiVo, the rest of “The Biggest Loser: Special Edition” on VCR 1, “Veronica Mars” on VCR 2, and “Bones” on VCR 3.  At 9 PM, continue watching “The 48th Annual Grammy Awards;” record “Invasion” on TiVo, “Law & Order” on VCR 1, and “Project Runway 2” on VCR 2 when it repeats at this time on Bravo.  At 10 PM, watch the rest of “The 48th Annual Grammy Awards.”  At 11:30 PM, watch “Drawn Together.”  At 3 PM on Thursday, watch “That’s What I’m Talking About” when it repeats on TV Land.
