2006 May Sweeps May 1 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

Wife Swap (ABC; ends at 8 PM)-A rodeo champ from Delaware who believes in chores and discipline for kids switches places with a free-spirited hairstylist from the suburbs in Ohio.

The King of Queens (CBS; ends at 7:30 PM)-When Doug realizes he has more in common with Deacon's wife than with Deacon, he and Kelly start hanging out, as do Deacon and Carrie.  Everything is going smoothly between the newly formed friendships until Kelly grows tired of Doug's forgetfulness.  With Kelly no longer available, Deacon and Carrie invite Doug to hang out with them, but Doug is so distraught over losing Kelly that he ruins their evening.  Meanwhile, Arthur feels betrayed by the coffee shop girl, Gloria (guest star Amy Stiller, Jerry Stiller's daughter), who is having great success by taking Arthur's relationship advice and doing the exact opposite.

Deal or No Deal (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-Josie Butkovic of Garfield, Ohio and Randy Smith of Pasadena, California play for the top prize of $1 million.  I think that all players should do the grab bag thing like contestant Allyson did last week.

Prison Break (FOX; ends at 8 PM)-Westmoreland uses Bellick to plug a hole in the escape plan, which forces Michael to move up the breakout timetable.  A fearful Tweener pledges his loyalty to Michael and in return may get out of jail for free; Michael feels that he has no choice but to involve Sara in the plan and must betray his father figure; and Veronica finds her life in jeopardy from her closest ally, who has a surprising connection to a Fox River inmate.

One on One (UPN; ends at 7:30 PM)-Ready to enter the dating world, Breanna changes her rules about bringing dates back to the house, but when Arnaz shows up with his new girlfriend, Breanna regrets her decision.  Meanwhile, Breanna's uncle Kevin (guest star Marques Houston) and his protégé Darius (guest star Omarion) come to Los Angeles to build his KevCare hair-care line and enlist the roommates to help sell the products.

7th Heaven (WB; ends at 8 PM)-With Simon's wedding just a day away, the Camdens reminisce about simpler days when the children were little (in flashback sequences from the series' pilot episode.)  Meanwhile, in the present, Rose tells Simon that she may be pregnant, leaving Simon more conflicted than ever about their upcoming marriage.  At the dress rehearsal, Eric and Annie talk to Rose's parents, who both think that Rose may be lying about the pregnancy to make sure Simon goes through with the wedding.  Lucy and Kevin find out the sex of their second baby but decide to keep it a secret until after the wedding.  Ruthie meets Paul (guest star Max Roeg), a boy from Scotland who asks her out on a date.

7:30 PM:

How I Met Your Mother (CBS; ends at 8 PM)-Lily and Marshall need the gang's help when their wedding is moved up and now only two months away. Duties are divided...Lily, Robin, and Barney crash a high school prom to check out a potential band, while Ted and Marshall stuff wedding invitations on what was intended to be a boy's night out on the town.  While at the prom, Lily remembers all of the things she wanted to do after graduation and how many plans were derailed due to her relationship with Marshall.

All of Us (UPN; ends at 8 PM)-After a disturbing visit to the doctor's office that makes him feel old, Robert tries to rediscover his youth by getting a motorcycle and dating a young college girl.  Meanwhile, Dirk's fender bender with his old flame, Beverly (guest star Vivica A. Fox), is double the trouble when a shocking secret is revealed.

8 PM:

Supernanny (ABC; ends at 9 PM)-Season finale.  Vicki and Aaron Newton are separated, with joint custody of their two sons, 12-year-old Aaron and 5-year-old Kobe.  Though the boys are angels for Dad, young Kobe saves his worst behavior for Mom.  He is violent and destructive...hitting, kicking, slapping, punching, and swearing.  He even throws rocks at Jo's head.  Aaron isn't physically aggressive, but he does talk back to his mother.  For the first time, Jo Frost observes life in two homes to hone her recommendations for each parent...but can she get them to collaborate on their child-rearing techniques?

Two and a Half Men (CBS; ends at 8:30 PM)-Alan falls for Jake's teacher (guest star Julia Campbell), whose intelligence is a refreshing change from Kandi's flakiness.  Meanwhile, Charlie helps Jake with his audition for the school musical.

The Apprentice 5 (NBC; ends at 9 PM)-The eight remaining candidates travel to Long Island to put together grand openings for two new Hair Cuttery Salons.  The team with the most revenue from the one-day grand opening event wins and collaborates with legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach, while the losers sing a different tune in a heated boardroom.  Sean admits to a crush on a teammate, while one of the project managers decides to sit back and get her hair blown out.  The winners collaborate with composer and artist Burt Bacharach at the historical Steinway Hall to create an original song.

24 (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-Homeland Security honchos Karen Hayes and Miles Papazian react to new developments while former CTU commander Bill Buchanan works alongside analyst Chloe O’Brian to aid Jack Bauer.  As this long day enters the middle of the night, the emotions at the presidential retreat escalate to new levels for the First Lady.

Girlfriends (UPN; ends at 8:30 PM)

8:30 PM:

The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS; ends at 9 PM)-Christine tries not to have a meltdown when her ex-husband, Richard, brings his "new" Christine with him to pick up Ritchie and take him to breakfast so that they can get to know one another.  By day's end, Christine tries to pull herself together to make a good impression at parents' night at Ritchie's school, but is caught off guard when "new" Christine shows up as well.

Half & Half (UPN; ends at 9 PM)

9 PM:

What About Brian (ABC; ends at 10 PM)-It's Saturday and everyone wants something from Brian, but no one can find him.  Brian has decided that he would rather spend the day with his new love, Lisa B (guest star Bre Blair.)  Meanwhile Nicole, hopped up on her fertility hormone treatments, needs her brother to help her and Angelo with a car problem; Deena and Dave expect Brian to play "Barney" at their daughter's birthday party; Adam, stuck planning the wedding, wants him for some guy time; and Marjorie keeps leaving messages on Brian's phone to talk about their relationship.
