2006 May Sweeps May 17 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

Alias (ABC; ends at 8 PM)-An undercover Sydney works with Sark (recurring guest star David Anders) to beat Prophet Five to a crucial element in Rambaldi's prophecy; Vaughn sees his daughter for the first time; and Rachel learns what Thomas has been hiding.

The Amazing Race 9 (CBS; ends at 9 PM)-Two-hour season finale.  After traveling to five continents, 10 countries, and more than 59,000 thousand miles, one Team will be the first to cross the Finish Line and take home the one million dollar grand prize.  As the Teams race through Japan, they quickly learn that little mistakes can cost big time when there are only three teams left and the finish line is within reach.  The last two legs of the Race around the world prove both mentally and physically grueling and it is a tight contest until the very end.  I'm rooting for the hippies!

Deal or No Deal (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-Jim Moniz of Honolulu, Hawaii and Dana Belle of San Diego, California play for the top prize of $1 million.

Bones (FOX; ends at 8 PM)-Season finale.  While trying to determine the identity of a Jane Doe, Brennan is shocked to learn the remains are those of her mother, who went missing with her father 15 years ago.  After years of uncertainty and not knowing what happened to her parents, Brennan finally has confirmation of her mother’s death, and the news understandably hits her hard.  Now that remains have been uncovered, Booth can open an investigation into the case for the first time.  After researching Brennan’s parents’ lives, Booth surprises her with the news that her parents were not the people she thought they were...both were outlaws living under assumed identities.  With the team working to glean more information from her mother’s skeleton, to Brennan, she’s now more of a Jane Doe than ever.  As more details of her parents’ past, in addition to her own, come to the surface, Brennan must come to grips with a whole new reality.

America’s Next Top Model 6 (UPN; ends at 8 PM)-Season finale.  In Bangkok, the three remaining models face-off and struggle to deliver their lines and best poses for a CoverGirl commercial and photo shoot, and after the challenge one girl is eliminated.  Photographer Jim DeYonker makes a guest appearance and top Thai designer Roj Singhakul of "Issue" Clothing Line serves as a guest judge for the first elimination.  Later, the two finalists model before the judges and a large crowd in the final runway challenge on a giant, twisting, runway set as an ancient city of temples over water.  After an intense judging session, the winner of "America's Next Top Model" is revealed.

Final Destination 2 (WB; ends at 9 PM)-2003 horror movie starring Ali Larter, A.J. Cook, Michael Landes, David Paetkau, and James Kirk.

8 PM:

Lost (ABC; ends at 9 PM)-A determined Michael convinces Jack and several castaways to help him rescue Walt from "The Others."  Meanwhile, Charlie struggles with Eko's decision to discontinue building the church.

Dateline NBC: To Catch a Predator (NBC; ends at 9 PM)

American Idol 5 (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-One-hour results show.  I still bet that Elliot is the one going home tonight.

Top Chef (Bravo; ends at 9 PM)-The tension boils over in Part 1 of the two-part first-season finale when the three remaining chefs journey to Las Vegas to compete in a room-service challenge.  Chef Hubert Keller returns as guest judge.

My Super Sweet Sixteen (MTV; ends at 8:30 PM)-Season finale.  Darnell Robinson, the son of Sugar Hill Records president Leland Robinson, plans a party with a Coming to America theme.

Living in TV Land: Dick Van Patten (TV Land; ends at 8:30 PM)-A visit with Dick Van Patten features the actor playing tennis with Alan Thicke and Bernie Kopell, and playing in a poker tournament with Barry Williams, Susan Olsen, Ted Lange, and Jeff Conaway.

8:30 PM:

Tiara Girls (MTV; ends at 9 PM)-Season finale.  I've noticed that none of these girls win their pageants.  Heck...they don't even make it to the finals!

9 PM:

Invasion (ABC; ends at 10 PM)-Series finale.  Pandemonium ensues as the hybrids continue their round-up of the humans during the hurricane, while Underlay and Russell try to put together a rescue plan.  Meanwhile, Larkin, Dave, Jesse, and Rose are taken hostage by two humans who believe Underlay is the cause of the melee.

C.S.I.: NY (CBS; ends at 10 PM)-Season finale.  The C.S.I.s face their toughest challenge yet when a bomber uses random cell phone pages to detonate C-4 bombs across the city, and a member of the team fights for life when seriously injured during one of the explosions.  In a race against the clock, the team works with local agencies and government authorities to locate the bomber and narrow down the next trigger among the city's six million cell phones before he strikes again.  Meanwhile, as Mac investigates a routine crime scene, he stumbles upon a bag containing C-4 explosives and is unable to evacuate the building quickly enough to get his team out of harms' way.  While a CSI is rushed to surgery, Mac struggles with the memories of the last person he was unable to save, a fellow Marine killed during the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing.

Law & Order (NBC; ends at 10 PM)-Season finale.  The latest murder victims of two home invaders are the family members of a man who once sold fake DEA badges to the killers and then began secretly cooperating with police.  The case takes a harrowing turn when one of the law enforcement teams is put in the line of fire.  In a legal gambit, A.D.A. McCoy must then risk his career...and those of others, as well...to bend the rules and use corrupt DEA Agent Almonte (guest star Ritchie Coster) to lure out the sadistic psychopaths.
