2006 May Sweeps May 8 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

David Blaine: Drowned Alive (ABC; ends at 9 PM)-Blaine holds his breath underwater in an attempt to break the standing record, which is currently just under nine minutes.  Also featured: his preparation for the stunt, other illusions, and up-close magic.

The King of Queens (CBS; ends at 7:30 PM)-Doug tries to be romantic by showing up unexpectedly at Carrie's company retreat, but ends up ruining what she and her female co-workers were hoping would turn into a weekend of relaxation.  Carrie convinces her female co-workers to blow off work and take advantage of the hotel's spa.  However, her plans are put in jeopardy when Doug surprises her and wants to spend the weekend watching the original Planet of the Apes series.  Carrie tries to convince Doug to go home since she's going to be working all weekend, but gets caught in the lie when he discovers she already has an appointment for a massage.  Meanwhile, Danny and Spence sneak into the Huey Lewis concert by wearing Doug's "Event Staff" jacket, but their excitement quickly disappears when they are forced to fulfill several absurd requests for the band.  Academy Award-nominated musician Huey Lewis guest stars as himself.  Huey's my man!!

Deal or No Deal (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-Gary Riotto of Park Ridge, New Jersey plays for the top prize of $1 million in a high-energy match of nerves, instincts, and raw intuition.

Prison Break (FOX; ends at 8 PM)-Dr. Sarah questions if she should leave a light on and the door open for Michael, who must betray the Pope in order to carry out his escape plan.  Veronica finds evidence that points her to Montana, but realizes that her closest ally may actually be her greatest enemy.  Michael, Lincoln, and the other inmates make a break for it, but after the alarm is sounded, find out who will make it over the wall, who will be left behind, and who will leave the prison in a body bag.

One on One (UPN; ends at 7:30 PM)-Part 1 of 2.  While Breanna is using the boyfriend test she saw on a daytime talk show to see if Calvin is worthwhile to date, Arnaz finds himself getting jealous of her relationship until D-Mack’s sister Michelle (guest star Brandy) comes back from Paris and their old feelings for each other are rekindled.  Meanwhile, Sara is confused when the doctor she is dating only seems interested in getting to know her, not sleeping with her.  Later, an agent convinces Cash to become a model with some unexpected results.  R&B singer India.Arie guest stars as herself.

7th Heaven (WB; ends at 8 PM)-Series finale.  On Simon's wedding day, he and Rose have made up after their fight at the rehearsal dinner (that sucks...I've always hated Rose.)  Matt and Sarah show up unexpectedly to attend the wedding and make a surprising announcement, as do Kevin and Lucy.  Even the long-absent Mary (former cast mate Jessica Biel) appears in Eric and Annie's shared daydream and makes a call to the family to share her own good news.  The wedding day ends happily, though not in a way anyone could have predicted.  I've always thought that this was one of the worst acted, goofy shows on TV...yet I feel compelled to watch it.  I've always called it the Battlefield Earth of TV shows, because it's so bad that it's funny.  I'm actually going to miss it...because it would be funny to see the Zombie Twins grow up and attempt to actually act for once.

7:30 PM:

How I Met Your Mother (CBS; ends at 8 PM)-When a matchmaking company calls Ted claiming they have found his soul mate, he is forced to postpone his date when Lily asks for his help.  When Lily's car breaks down on the way to a secret appointment, Ted changes a very important date to come to Lily's rescue.  However, Lily drives off after confidentially telling him that she is on her way to an interview for a summer arts program that would derail her wedding.  Despite Ted's input, Lily decides that she must go through with the interview or she will always wonder what could have been.

All of Us (UPN; ends at 8 PM)-Robert's quest for youth gets a reality check when he meets the father of his young girlfriend, Daphne (guest star Napiera Groves), and when he finds out that Bobby got hurt while playing on Robert's new motorcycle.  Meanwhile, when Beverly (guest star Vivica A. Fox) encourages Dirk to connect with his newly discovered daughter, Courtney (guest star Raven Goodwin), he struggles to fit into the role of daddy to a mouthy teenager.

8 PM:

Two and a Half Men (CBS; ends at 8:30 PM)-When a girl (guest star Stephanie Brown) invites Jake to his first boy-girl party, Charlie robs Alan of the chance to offer his son advice on women by beating him to the task.  Alan also feels slighted that Charlie never gave him that much-needed advice in their youth.

The Apprentice 5 (NBC; ends at 9 PM)-The six remaining candidates head back to college as they are asked to run a tailgate party event featuring items from the Outback Steakhouse Menu at Rutgers University.  The team that generates the greatest revenue from the sales wins.  The winners wine and dine in the country, while the losers face getting grilled in the boardroom.  The candidates relive their college days by putting on a tailgate party during a home football game.  One team creates a spectacle with an eating contest while members of the other team dress up as cheerleaders.  The winners travel via helicopter to Raphael Vineyard on Long Island to blend and create their own private label wine.

24 (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-As Agent Jack Bauer inches closer to bringing the culprits to justice, President Logan takes unthinkable and shocking measures to impede Jack’s progress.  With CTU commanders Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes covertly working together, a counterproductive dynamic is created.  Meanwhile, Vladimir Bierko reenters the picture.

Girlfriends (UPN; ends at 9 PM)-One-hour season finale.

Everwood (WB; ends at 9 PM)-Devastated by the decision of his med school advisor, a desperate Reid sees no way out and tries to commit suicide.  Ephram rescues him, but can't forgive himself for missing the signs of Reid's depression.  Andy and Nina are caught in a compromising situation when Nina admits she may still have feelings for Andy.  Trying to win Rose's forgiveness, Harold buys her a necklace, but Bright takes the necklace and tries to give it to Hannah as an apology for his affair.  A PSA regarding teen suicide will air at the conclusion of the episode.

Punk’d (MTV; ends at 8:30 PM)-Nicollette Sheridan ("Desperate Housewives") and Michelle Trachtenberg ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") are the ones who are Punk'd this week.

8:30 PM:

The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS; ends at 9 PM)-Christine learns alarming news about Richard and their former marriage counselor.  Christine's former marriage counselor comes into the gym, leading to some awkward moments between the two women.  When Christine mentions this to Richard, his cryptic reaction leads her to question whether it was in the counselor's best interest to encourage their divorce.  Meanwhile, Matthew finds Christine's wedding video in a box of old photo albums, and Christine takes a trip down memory lane.  Wanda Sykes ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") guest stars as Christine's friend, Barb.

9 PM:

What About Brian (ABC; ends at 10 PM)-Season finale.  Brian's apparent interest in his new girlfriend causes Marjorie to unwittingly sabotage the relationship.  Dave, who is convinced that Deena is having an affair, turns what was supposed to be a simple golf outing with the guys into a complicated stakeout to catch his wife in the act.  Meanwhile, Nicole has told Deena that spouses shouldn't keep secrets from each other, but she's hiding from Angelo that she's taking fertility hormone injections.

C.S.I: Miami (CBS; ends at 10 PM)-On Horatio's wedding day, the team investigates the electrocution death of a young celebrity.  A spoiled heiress is found dead in her bathtub during her own star-studded party and her red carpet rival, personal assistant and musician boyfriend are the prime suspects.  Meanwhile, Horatio tells Delko that he and Marisol are getting married as soon as possible, but extenuating circumstances could ruin their special day.  "The Insider's" Victoria Recaño guest stars as herself.

Medium (NBC; ends at 10 PM)-While investigating the death of a local physician, an ominous man claiming to be "Death" (guest star Kelsey Grammer, who is also the show's executive producer) starts appearing to Allison in her visions, causing her to worry that she might be living on borrowed time.
