2006 November Sweeps November 14 Listings

(Show titles in the larger size are the shows I recommend; reruns are not listed; all times are in the Mountain Time Zone)

7 PM:

Dancing with the Stars 3 (ABC; ends at 8:30 PM)-90-minute episode.  Tenth-round competition pits Mario Lopez vs. Emmitt Smith, setting the stage for tomorrow's third-season finale.  I bet it will be Mario!

NCIS (CBS; ends at 8 PM)

Friday Night Lights (NBC; ends at 8 PM)-It’s homecoming in Dillon, Texas, as alumni reunite, and the team prepares for the undefeated Laribee Lions.  Tyra Collette and Billy Riggins mix it up as they plan the after game party to end all parties.  On the field, Brian "Smash" Williams feels the pressure when he gets his one chance to impress a college recruiter.  Tim Riggins quits drinking and focuses everything on the game while the 2000 State Champ quarterback, Lucas Mize (guest star Chad Brannon), returns to town a hero, but hides the true secrets about his life.  At rehab, Jason Street’s becomes more suspect of the relationship between Lyla and Tim.

Standoff (FOX; ends at 8 PM)-After a surrogate mother scams a desperate husband out $50,000 for her newborn baby, the distraught man takes matters into his own hands.  He shoots the social worker who arranged the illegal adoption and then flees, taking the newborn child and the babysitter hostage.  The resulting high-speed chase ends at the scam artist’s home, where, in an attempt to defend his actions, the man calls shock-jock radio personality Avery Steele’s (guest star Brent Sexton) show and his plight goes live on the air throughout Los Angeles.  Matt and Emily must enlist Steele’s help to negotiate the crisis over the airwaves, but this “power to the people” jock is anything but cooperative.

The Gilmore Girls (CW; ends at 8 PM)-Christopher and Lorelai take his daughter GiGi (guest star Nicolette Collier) to visit her mother in Paris.  Despite severe jet lag, they manage to have a wonderful, romantic time enjoying the city and each other.  Back in Connecticut, Rory comes to the end of her tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Daily News and suddenly finds herself unsure of her future.  Her new friends Olivia (guest star Michelle Ongkingo) and Lucy (guest star Krysten Ritter) suggest a trip to Stars Hollow for a girls' night while Lorelai is out of town.  When they return, Rory is surprised to find that Lucy's new boyfriend is her old friend Marty (guest star Wayne Wilcox), who pretends not to know Rory.  Christopher and Lorelai return home with a surprise for everyone.

8 PM:

The Unit (CBS; ends at 9 PM)-A helicopter carrying Bob and a woman translator crashes in a remote area in Russia.  The two aren't injured seriously, but the cold weather and lack of food soon begin to wear them down.  As Bob searches for food and help, he remembers back to when he went through training for the Unit to see if he would qualify.  It was a time when Jonas' job was to make sure he failed.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC; ends at 9 PM)

House (FOX; ends at 9 PM)-Kyle (guest star Zeb Newman) comes to the hospital regularly to visit his father, Gabe (guest star John Larroquette), who has been in a coma for 10 years.  Noticing something “off” about Kyle, House conducts a mini-experiment that leaves the boy unconscious.  When symptoms point to a possible genetic condition, House and his team must glean a family history from Kyle’s only living relative...his comatose father.  Meanwhile, Wilson confronts House about stealing his prescription pad, and Tritter (recurring guest star David Morse) questions Cameron, Foreman, and Chase, dividing the team and revealing where their individual loyalties lie.

Veronica Mars (CW; ends at 9 PM)-Veronica is disappointed in Keith for his ongoing relationship with his client, Harmony (guest star Laura San Giacomo, "Just Shoot Me"), who invites him on a romantic weekend getaway.  When Veronica retreats to Wallace and Piz's dorm room for some quiet time, Logan seeks her help in clearing Mercer (guest star Ryan Devlin, "TRL") of the rape charges, but refuses to give her his alibi.

8:30 PM:

Show Me the Money (ABC; ends at 10 PM)-90-minute series premiere.  A new high-octane variety/game show series to be hosted by Emmy-winning television legend William Shatner, will air in a special preview (its normal night will be on Wednesdays, before "Day Break.")  In the show, contestants must answer a minimum of six trivia questions.  After each answer, the contestant chooses from among thirteen stunning dancers on stage, each of whom holds a scroll with a dollar figure to be added or subtracted...for correct or incorrect answers...to the contestant's total.  A correct answer, combined with choosing a dancer holding big money, can quickly catapult the player's winnings into the millions.  A wrong answer however, combined with the wrong dancer, can wipe out winnings in an instant.  There is no opportunity to play it safe...contestants will be tempted to take the money and run, but this rollercoaster ride of a game show requires that you play to the very end.  In this episode, contestants Matt Marr, a law clerk from Lone Grove, Oklahoma and Alan Pietruszewski, a U.S. Navy fighter pilot from Buffalo, New York, will attempt to win...and keep from losing...a million plus dollars.

9 PM:

3 lbs. (CBS; ends at 10 PM)-Series premiere.  Top New York neurosurgeons (Stanley Tucci, Mark Feuerstein) explore the intricacies of the brain as they perform surgeries and care for the needs of their patients.  In the opener, a teen collapses while playing violin in a concert and it's discovered that she has a tumor.  Dr. Hanson (Tucci) wants to operate, but the girl's mother isn't sure that is best since she recently lost another daughter during an operation.  Also, Hanson's latest protégé (Feuerstein) arrives.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC; ends at 10 PM)-With the victims' pimp, Victor Dodine (guest star Michael Kenneth Williams) as the prime suspect, detectives must rely on one of his young girls Belinda "Passion" Holt (guest star Charlie Ray), to testify against him.  This case rattles Beck in more ways than one.

11 PM:

Nip/Tuck (FX; ends at 12:05 AM)-In 2026, 20-year-old Conor (guest star Stark Sands) copes with his emotional scars at a family gathering prior to surgery on his other hand, but Annie (guest star Jennifer Elise Cox) can't shake the torment left by her upbringing.  Back in 2006, Sean and Julia's marriage is at a crossroads.
